James Berry Vineyard
Grenache Blend
All varietals cofermented in a stainless tank. Roughly 3 weeks from harvest to press, with 1-3 days of cold soak maceration prior to fermentation and 1-7 days of extended maturation after. Syrah was about 60% whole cluster fermented and the Roussanne 100% whole cluster. Pumpovers at onset of fermentation, followed by delestage and punchdowns at least twice daily until completion. Homogenized free run and press. Shallow clay loam topsoil covering an ancient seabed.

Blend 65% Grenache, 22% Syrah, 11% Mourvedre, 2% Roussanne
Alcohol % 15.6
Leading off the 2022s, the already bottled 2022 James Berry Vineyard is based on 65% Grenache, 22% Syrah, 11% Mourvèdre, and a tiny bit of Roussanne. It has a riveting nose of red and black fruits, ground pepper, sweet incense, orange blossom, and leather. This ripe, medium to full-bodied, beautifully textured, opulent beauty has sweet tannins, no hard edges, and a great, great finish. As with all of Mark’s 2022s, it’s not inky nor massively concentrated, yet the purity of fruit is impeccable, it’s flawlessly balanced, and has an incredibly sense of elegance. Drink bottles over the coming decade or so.
